Panther athletics will kick off the year by welcoming the community Aug. 28 to the inaugural Panther Pride Festival.
The event will begin at 3:30 p.m. in the Callaway Auditorium parking lot and will feature autograph sessions with LC athletes, live music, community vendors and children’s games. Food trucks will be on site.
The festival will conclude with an intersquad football game at 6:30 p.m. between Team Pres (Dr. Susanna Baxter) and Team AD (Terlynn Olds). The "coaches" will choose their teams in a live draft at noon Saturday (Aug. 21) on the LaGrange Panthers Facebook page.
Olds, Director of Athletics and Recreation, said she is excited to welcome the entire community to the festival.
“We’d love for everyone to come out and join us as we celebrate the beginning of the 2021-22 sports season,” she said. “Our student-athletes can’t wait to meet fans and supporters at this event.”
Some of the free activities planned for the festival on Aug. 28 will include team spotlights, live music with LC student Isaiah Robertson, a DJ and autograph tables for each sport.
“Every team’s station will feature interactive activities for children, such as a putting green for golf, T-ball for baseball and a portable hoop for basketball,” Olds said. “It’s going to be a lot of fun.”
Available for purchase will be items from more than 25 arts and crafts vendors, a flea market and a farmer’s market. The Suber Archives will have a display of vintage athletic programs, photos and gear, and food trucks will include Graffiti, JBO’s Grill Pit, Teriyaki Me Out, Frios and Kona Ice.
Olds said the event exemplifies her vision for LC Athletics.
“We want to have a positive impact on the community and focus on being ‘One LaGrange’ with the college and community.”
